Could Fitted Carpets Be Causing A Large Number Of Health Problems For British Children?

The love of British people for fitted carpets could actually be causing a large part of the health problems among the adult population of the country and is most probably one of the leading reasons for the growing number of UK children suffering from asthma, various allergies and even cancer.  The good thing is that there are a number of companies for carpet cleaning in Camberwell which can clean up the toxic and dangerous pollutants and dirt which get stuck in our carpets.

The alarming conclusion for a direct correlation between dirty rugs and the growing number of children with breathing problems and serious illnesses related to the respiratory system was made by an environment engineer named John Roberts, but better known as Dr.Dust because of his strong views on the importance of household hygiene.

According to him, as well as to a number of other health experts, the carpets in our homes can be somewhat like sponges which absorb the pollutants, dirt, bacteria and toxins we drag into our homes via our dirty shoes, our pets and through the air which enters our house, as well as by residues from cooking, smoking, dry-cleaning and a number of household sprays and the use of certain cleaning solutions.

The dirt all falls to the carpets and settles in them embedded deeply which makes it very difficult to reach and clean out without professional cleaning help.

The study led by Mr. Robert showed that traditionally in the 1970’s more than 90% of the British homes had carpets, which is a much larger percentage as compared to any other country.  The toxins accumulated in these carpets included dangerously high levels of toxic heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which are known to cause cancer, as well as the now-banned polychlorinated biphenols (PCBs) which are still found in some older wall coverings, appliances and plastics and are proven to cause cancer, miscarriages and other serious health problems.

The shocking findings are that the dangerous or potentially harmful pollutants which can be found in the British carpets are more than those found outdoors.  This means that the air we breathe in a home which has wall to wall carpets which are not deep cleaned professionally on a regular basis could be very dangerous and harmful to our and our children’s health.

The solution, according to Dr.Dust is to remove this type of carpeting and rely on wooden flooring and smaller rugs, which are easier to clean and do not accumulate all that dirt and pollutants.  Of course, you could also find a reliable carpet cleaning service to come in and clean your carpeting thoroughly at least once a year in order to keep the level of pollutants to a healthy level.
