5 Worst Places To Get Hit With A Traffic Fine

A traffic ticket isn’t fun no matter where you get it, but some states are worse than others are when it comes to the fines. The following five of the absolute worst places to get hit with traffic fines:

Ohio: Overall Rank

Esurance ranked the state of Ohio as number one for the likelihood of a driver getting pulled over for something. The state has amped up its traffic enforcement, and the officers are sometimes eager to meet their quotas. As far as the actual cost of the fines, they are mid-range. Running a red light, for example, may produce a $100 to $200 fine.

Virginia: Speeding

Virginia has some of the highest fines in the country, so drivers must be on their Ps and Qs when traveling through the state. Anyone who gets caught speeding could be looking at a $2,500 fine. Illinois and Georgia are two other states that have similarly high fines.

New Hampshire: U-Turn

A driver shouldn’t even think about making a U-turn where it isn’t allowed in New Hampshire. Such a person could end up paying more than $1,000 for it. It’s not worth it to cut corners in that case.

Nevada: Leaving the Scene

Nevada is another state that has gotten stiff on its punishments for various driving offenses. Improper passing can cost someone up to $1,200 and leave a 4-point mark on the license for three years. Hit and run violations can receive a hefty fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to 20 years.

California: Seat Belt Violations

A seat belt violation isn’t exactly a moving violation, but it is something that people commit while they are driving. California is one of the worst places in the United States for a person to get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. The fine for such an offense is $162.

Some traffic tickets are subject to surcharges and court costs. Additionally, some of them can bring jail time, license suspensions and high insurance rates. All of those things can make a person’s life more complicated than it already is. The best thing for a driver to do is to try to follow all state laws and be mindful of the speed when he or she is operating a vehicle. Speeding is one of the easiest things to lose track of, so drivers must discipline themselves there.
