A Guide To Buying The Best Present For Your Wife

It might be an anniversary, a wedding, a sudden rush of affection … or even an apology, but whatever the reason is, there will come a time when you will be looking to buy a gift for your wife or girlfriend (or partner, if you want to quibble over terminology). As someone who has had to buy many gifts for many such occasions, I’m going to try and help you out here. I obviously don’t know what your partner likes and so this will be a more general gift list, however I think you will most certainly be able to find something here that your better half would be interested in.

A note: I will try and cover a wide range of budgets.

Fashion Accessories

If you’re brave enough (and confident enough) to know what she will like – as we all know, women can have particular and exacting tastes – then why not try and get a fashion accessory for her: A handbag, a pair of sunglasses, a pair of high heels. If you scan her wardrobe you should be able to get a good idea of what she likes. Just remember to always keep the receipt.

If you want an accessory with a bit more pizzazz (and a few more zeroes on the cheque) then take a look at the next item.

Necklace

You’ve already done the whole ring thing when you got engaged, so why not go for a necklace this time. There are a couple of great ways you can personalise a necklace:

  • Engraved Locket – You will have seen these countless times in old movies, but lockets still retain a mass appeal and popularity to this day. You can either get a message engraved into the locket or even a picture of the two of you together. It’s old fashioned, I know, but there is something to be said for the classics.
  • Hair into a Diamond – If you are in the mood for something a little more modern, then I would suggest getting a diamond made from your own hair (or both of your hair). Companies will now take hair (or ashes from a deceased love one) and forge it into a diamond and then set it into a ring of pendant. It’s personal and it will last forever.

Home Accessories

You get to enjoy this one too, plus you’ll have a better idea of what she’ll like (but only if you actually pay attention to the house you live in, of course). It could be something small like some pillows or candles or maybe something big like an expensive painting or rug (or you could just steal a rug like De Niro in The Godfather Part II). I would stay away from furniture like sofas and desks as she will probably want to be a part of that decision.

A Day Out

A Guide To Buying The Best Present For Your Wife

This one will never ever fail (although it is also a good idea to have something small she can open too). Nothing says I love you like a well thought out day of fun. Whether it’s a fancy meal and the opera, a couple’s spa, or even a day out to the zoo followed by a boat trip… the only limit is your imagination.
