In the United States, you can rent virtually any car you might want. At basic car rental agencies you can rent everything from tiny sedans, to SUVs, to convertibles. At higher end agencies, you can spend your time finding the luxury vehicle of your choice. At some spots, you can even rent high-end supercars and ultra luxury mobiles, such as Bentleys, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris.
Of course, the Bentleys, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris, exciting as they are, are not nearly as common as the Dodges, Fords, and Chevrolets at a rental agency. So, what exactly are the most common rental car models in the United States? Here are a few that you’re likely to rent:
Chevrolet Malibu
The Chevy Malibu is arguably the most popular rental sedan in the U.S. It’s an affordable car, which is why it is so popular among rental agencies, but it is also reliable and practical, making it an ideal vehicle to drive for a few days. The Malibu is a modest car with decent gas mileage, and more importantly, works well as a family car.
Regardless of what car you drive, if you get in a Chevrolet Malibu you will feel comfortable turning it on and taking off. It is an easy to maneuver car that makes drivers feel comfortable and safe, making it the benchmark for rental sedans in the U.S.
Ford Escape

Just as the Malibu and the Escape the most common rental sedan and SUV, the Caravan is the most popular minivan. Like the Escape, however, it drives like a car much smaller than it is, and also gets better mileage than many of its competitors, making it a popular model.

Not surprisingly, American cars tend to populate American rental agencies. According to one study, Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, and Pontiac — all American companies — are the five most commonly rented car companies in the U.S., with Jeep and Buick joining them in the top 10.
