Basically, cricket is a bat and ball game played between two teams with 11 players each. Since the birth of the modern game in England during the 16th century, cricket has already gained much more popularity, reaching as far as Pakistan, India, South Africa, Australia, and the West Indies. The sport is not only played by men as women have been dominating the field too for centuries now.

Cricket Through the Years

In the year 1788, the first official rules of the game were published. Then in 1793, the first documented game of cricket was played on the Lord’s field in England. It was in 1844 when professional matches or international games of cricket started. However, it was just in 1909 when an international association for the said sports was formed. It was called the International Cricket Association (ICA) with England, Australia, and South Africa as founding members. India, West Indies, and other countries were then added in the succeeding years. Then finally, in 1975, the first ever Cricket World Cup was held.

2016 Asia Cup and 2016 World Cup

The ACC Asia Cup is a one-day men’s international cricket tournament that was established in 1983, the same year when the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was founded. The tournament is held biennially and served as a qualifier to the ICC World Cup which happens once every four years.

This year marks the 13th edition of the Asia Cup which will be held in Bangladesh, its fifth time to host the cup, on February 24 to March 6, 2016. It will be the first time that the cricket tournament will be played using a Twenty20 International (T20I) format. The defending champion, Sri Lanka, the host country, Bangladesh, together with Pakistan, India, and one ICC associate member (to be determined through the 2016 Asia Cup Qualifier) will compete for the 2016 Asia Cup. Afghanistan, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, and Oman will contend each other in the qualifying tournament. The 2016 Asia Cup Champions will then compete in the 2016 World Cup which will be held in India on March 8 to April 3.
