Boat Shows: What To Know Before You Go

Boat Shows: What to Know Before You Go

You have most likely been to a car show at some point in your life, or at least watched one on TV, but have you been to a boat show? Unless you are a boat aficionado or live near a lake, it is fairly likely that you have not attended a boat show of any kind. Unlike most car shows, boat shows are not just all about showing off vessels that you probably can’t afford or rare boats that are many, many years old. Instead, they typically include both new and used boats that are ready to be purchased by a lucky attendee.

If you have never attended a boat show and are looking for some guidance, you have come to the right place. However, the best tip out there is to just go out and experience it. Trying new things is always a good idea, and if you like boats and other water toys, you won’t be disappointed by what these events have to offer.

If you have a family and are wondering what to do with the kids this weekend, take them to the boat show! Almost every boat show is family friendly, with activities to do along with boat viewing. Even if the event doesn’t include other activities, there are plenty of boats for the kids to climb on, as long as you keep them somewhat under control.

On that note, you will probably want to make sure everyone wears socks if you plan on touring a boat or two. Most of those showing boats will require no shoes on the boat, so if you want to take a look without sharing germs with hundreds of other attendees, socks are a good choice.

If you are attending a boat show with the intention of buying or looking to buy, you may want to check out reviews before you go. Sellers tend to talk about their boat and you don’t want to make a mistake by buying purely on impulse. If the show is taking place next to a body of water, they may be offering trial runs of boats you may be interested in. However, you generally need to sign up before hand to get a trial spot. Check out your specific boat show’s website for information on when the sign-ups are and where you can put your information down.

Boats generally will not be the only thing present at the show. They often include anything from other water toys to things like fishing equipment. If the event has a website, they will often present a list of events for attendees, so check it out to see if there will be anything else you may be interested in.

You many want to bring some cash with if you plan on staying for more than a few hours, as the events often offer foods, drinks, and alcoholic beverages to attendees at a small expense.

Boat shows can be a lot of fun, especially for your first time. Come with an open mind and free time to wander, and you will surely have a great time!
